Haskap berry in child nutrition – part 1
Haskap berry contains a lot of nutrients that are very important for the body’s development. The fruits are mainly rich in vitamin C, as well as iron, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium and potassium. Vitamin C is very important because it is one of those compounds that our body is unable to produce itself. We must therefore take it in food or in food supplements. Vitamin C is very important especially when it comes to children. It prevents infections and builds resistance in young organisms. Very often, products with vitamin C available on our market have unnecessary sweeteners, so it is worth enriching the diet of the child with haskap berries. These fruits are richer in vitamin C than strawberries, raspberries and blackcurrant. In 100g of berries there is about 40 mg of this vitamin, which is about 60% of the daily requirement for it.
Vitamin A plays a key role in the proper functioning of the eye and immune system, and also has a positive effect on cell growth. Specialists have been recommending taking vitamin A in food for a very long time because the side effects of using supplements are not fully known. Vitamin A deficiency is a very serious problem all over the world. It is estimated that up to 230 million children do not have access to this vitamin, and more than a million of them die each year. Lack of vitamin A contributes to the deterioration or complete loss of vision, the development of various types of infections or severe diarrhea. Haskap berry is rich in vitamin A and has more of it than, for example, orange or grape.
